I still don't drink the SEC kool aid. Why is it now an issue of not having a championship game? The Pac-10 and Big 10 didn't until the last 3 years. The Big 12 had one until the last 3 years. I've never heard this point be made before. I've watched all the playoff teams, and TCU is the only team I would feel confident about in the playoff. A 4 minute meltdown (helped by the refs no less)away from home is no reason to leave them out.
You are correct on the financial front. Texas has screwed 11 other schools by going to espn before the conference.

Because the playing field has changed. And now the big 12 is the only power 5 conference without a championship. And it's the smallest of the power 5 conferences with only 10 teams. In the BCS era, it wasn't as important. But now with the playoff...they play 1 less game than other playoff contenders, who play in their championship. And they arguably got screwed by the committee. Part of that is that the committee obviously protected the blue blood tOSU. The other part, IMO, is the lack of that championship. I don't think it's coincidence that the 4 playoff teams are all champions of their respective conferences.
You can argue that TCU should not have been jumped, and I agree completely. But as a big 12 member, I think they had the weakest backing of the contenders. Imagine if Mizzou had pulled the upset - can you imagine the committee daring to leave Alabama off that slate? Mike Slive would not have allowed that to happen. The big 12 commish doesn't have that kind of juice.
Bottom line, a 4-team playoff isn't going to last. It will go to at least 8 teams, and I don't think it'll take many years to get there.
