Hold on there partner. I have never claimed it should have been a penalty of that injures in football are avoidable. Simply stating that the way he was tackled produced the same effect as if he had been the victim of a illegal horsecollar. I don't care if they change the rules. Not enough people get hurt like that anyway.

The reason for the horsecollar penalty in the first place is to avoid major leg injuries. I don't see why there is a distinction between grabbing the shoulder pads or anything else that creates the same kind of tackle. UK had a similar tackle on Mauk on Saturday, and he was not injured. Like the Treadwell tackle, it was perfectly legal. Mauk was lucky.

Some rules are designed to help prevent injuries. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they declared all horsecollar-type tackles illegal. If a player is injured on this type of tackle, it is almost always season-ending, and in some cases it is career-ending. The distinction shouldn't be what they grab. It should be a penalty if they grab high from behind and then land on the legs while the ball carrier is bending the wrong way.
