reading posts from fans of Alabama wanting to sneak into the playoffs rather than go in as champions

If Bama wins out and so does Ole Miss then Bama will make playoffs and Ole Miss will (likely as SEC Champs). My preference is that Bama win out and AU or MSU beat Ole Miss so Bama can have a shot at the playoffs as SEC Champ. Reality, I love winning conference championships, but I don't think any less of the 2011 BCS title that didn't come after an SEC title than I do the 2009 or 2012 BCS titles that did come after SEC titles.

If Bama loses, they're out. If they win out, their in. That's all Bama fans care about...win out.

Why should Bama go after losing to Mississippi, just because you think Bama is better than Oregon/MSU/FSU?

That's just dumb - I might agree with you, but that is no way to pick playoff contenders. BECAUSE - I guarantee you that the first time this works AGAINST the SEC, heads will explode all over the South.

Think about it, a particularly brutal year in the SEC when the champion goes 6-2/11-2 and there are 4 undefeated OOC teams and the SEC champ doesn't go? [insert exploding head gif here]

Neither do I, that was the system put in place, and made a really great story line. I also don't think any less of the 2003 or 2007 titles LSU won in spite of all the controversy involved - they won according to the rules in place at the time.
