The actual problem appears to be that one of the players with dup number actually WAS playing both ways, he was a WR who was put in on defense according to the above poster.

I think you are a couple of decades behind the times.

If I am not mistaken there is a roster limit of 105 including walkons. That's 85 schollies and 20 walkons.

120 ended in something like 1977 maybe.

Refs probably don't even look for such a penalty.

They missed the same penalty a few years ago when Notre Dame squeaked by Pitt.

Pitt missed a FG in OT that would have wont eh game.

ND had 2 guys with the same number, should have been 5 yards closer and a do-over, instead Pitt goes on to lose in a later OT.
