My not so fond memory of Dixie was when Notre Dame played Ole Miss in Jackson in 1977. ND was favored by 3 touchdowns. To make a long hot and humid story short, Ole Miss beat ND 20-13 and the Ole Miss band kept playing "Dixie" over and over again.
The next game, ND was losing again and Coach Dan Devine put his 3rd string QB into the game in the 4th quarter... a guy by the name of Joe Montana. ND scored 17 unanswered points to win the game, didn't lose another game that year, trounced Earl Campbell and Texas in the Cotton Bowl and won the National Championship.
Every time I hear "Dixie", I remember that game in Jackson....
