Vaught had a better winneing Pct and more bowl wins than Bear did when Vaught retired. Bear's years coaching after JV had the heart attack is when he passed Vaught.

Who's to say Vaught wouldn't have changed had he stayed? Bear only had a handful of Black players when JV retired.
