I was using the safety situation as an example where Saban acted contrary to the fans wishes. I liked Vinnie, but if you would have polled Bama fans they would have liked to see more Collins. But Saban gives zero fricks about it.

What does it matter in saying that Sims is the starter? Saban doesn't care about the feelings of a backup. What's Coker going to do? Quit football altogether if Saban names Sims the starter? Isn't like he can transfer anywhere else now. Plus if the situation is as settled as you say, why give up precious starting reps that your new quarterback needs to be successful just to not hurt someone's feelings? Isn't worth it. If Sims is the starter he needs all of the reps possible to get ready for UF and Ole Miss.

What are the media/fans going to do? Revolt? Saban could name Amari Cooper starting qb tomorrow and what could we do about it? Jack shite. People aren't going to stop giving to the university or going to games if Sims is the starter. If anything it would unite the fans by telling us who it's going to be so we can fully get behind that guy.

The 2011 schedule set up perfectly for the qb battle in that we got to see AJ respond to a hostile environment against a quality team. With this qb battle we are having to guess what would happen if he faced adversity. UF and LSU have eaten alive better qbs than Sims before (the 2012 Heisman winner comes to mind) How do we know that the same won't happen to Sims agains UF? We don't know how he will respond until he's put in that position.

Not that it matters, but if this were 2009 or 2011 where we had a salty defense I would support Sims, as his play so far would be more than enough to manage the game. This year we need higher production at the qb position to be successful.
