Yes, they were the only two loss champ. Were they fortunate? Yes. Did they win the toughest conference in America? Yes. I believe the SEC had it's best bowl record that year at 7-2. Did they beat the other team that was ranked #1 going into the national championship game? Yes. LSU beat 5 teams in the top 15 of the final poll.
Bama 2011 - Did they win the SEC (or SEC West)? No. Were they fortunate to get in the NC? Yes. Bama beat 2 ranked teams in the final poll and they were just 1-1 against one of those two teams. So they had a winning percentage against 1 team ranked in the final poll (and LSU still had a better record).
The bottom line is that both teams took advantage of the good fortune they had and won at the most important time.

Surprisingly no comment about that strong second half against the Warhawks? Im sure there were plenty of state pride fans leaving Bryant-Denny that day. Roll Tide.
Shocking that u of all people would take a shot at a SEC Champion playing for a Nat'l Title.
And any Gump fan taking a shot at another fanbase with Finebaum, Phyllis and Harvey repping the school. well its just plain comical. Roll Tide.
