I'm surprised at the number of posters in this thread who think the old man was supposed to be calm and collected enough to handle the situation any differently than he did. If I came into my house and there were two people ransacking it, I would pull my gun and start firing. Now, I'm not saying I would necessarily hit anybody because the heat of the moment tends to affect a lot of us, but bullets would be flying in their general direction at least. The man is 80 years old, he and his neighbors have been robbed before and the perps threw him down. I think that's enough to get just about anybody angry enough to keep shooting even if the creeps were running away. I don't understand putting so much responsibility on the homeowner in this situation.
