This is my opinion. The most logical thing to do is have civil unions recognized by government entities (whether they be gay couples or straight couples) and let people stand before their own church to be wed (if they so choose) Churches should then have the right to refuse or grant marriage ceremonies based on their doctrine.

its such a simple solution.

i think its difficult for some christians to realize that not everyone defines marriage through religious terms, with a ceremony and a priest and sacred vows, etc...

really, what difference does it make? non-believers and members of other faiths have been getting married for ever as well, and it hasnt been an issue. an atheist and a homosexual share the same risk of going to hell, so why the importance on gay marriage?

non-believers dont care what the Bible defines marriage as, and state-recognized marriage is a very different matter altogether.
