This is very true. If the Clippers are garbage like 95% of their history then this doesn't become as big as it is. The stuff with Elgin Baylor in the mid 2000s was much worse IMO, but you never really heard that much about it because nobody cared about the clippers.

There was a specific reason this tape was "leaked" at this specific time I believe. Someone got paid nicely to do so.

This is how 24-hour news works. Just look at CNN covering the damn Malaysian airplane. Fifty years ago it would have been "yeah so a plane went missing and probably crashed into the ocean somewhere oh well pretty sad :(" whereas now we have what is essentially an entire channel dedicated to covering it.
