What got to them was the firestorm over the story spreading so fast. Parents were so up in arms about the possibility of having class today despite the threatened shooting that Dr. Gogue would have been burned at the stake had they not canceled class. This was a matter of financial security and nothing more.

Yep. And that very passive-aggressive AU Alert message made it very clear. I can't decide how I feel about cancelling class. I wish it hadn't been necessary, but a majority of students would likely have stayed home anyway. I agree that April 16th being the anniversary of the VT shooting had a lot to do with the reaction.

I know some concealed carry every day on campus, but the number of concealed firearms on campus would be likely have been much higher today. With an increased police presence specifically looking for hidden weapons, it would have been a very tense situation. It's just an incredibly shitty situation where it was likely a jackass thinking he is funny. However, the pressure from outside combined with any minute chance of an attack to be too much to allow class to go on.
