The first team defense looked awesome. Only points given up by the Purple team were the pick sixes and the defense wasn't on the field for those.
Can't really judge the First team offense at this point, even though the Purple offense scored 42 points and gained 622 yards which included 399 yards through the air on 49 pass plays. It was evident the focus was on going deep for this game.
Too early to make a call at QB, although all three scholarship QB's threw TD passes. RB depth was non-existent as only two scholarship RB's played and one of those, Magee, went out early in the second half. Hilliard does look to be in very good form now, and Magee was running well until he twisted his ankle.
Again lack of depth at WR was evident, as only Dural was a factor, but he looks primed for a big year. He had five receptions for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the spring game. Tight end DeSean Smith also added three receptions for 45 yards and a score. It was unusual to see both the TE's and FB's so involved in the passing game. The OL looked great. Really shaping up to be a good unit.
When the freshman contingent arrives, I expect to see a lot of those challenge for starting roles, particularly on offense. The defense we saw in the spring game will only make minimal changes, maybe one or two players at most will compete for starting roles. It's a whole other story on offense, where as many as five freshman could wind up winning starting roles. It seems certain that LSU will be a very young team on offense this year.
It's also certain that there is a lot of talent in Baton Rouge. LSU will wind up being a tough out for anyone. The Tigers will be capable of beating anyone on their schedule.

What you stated has been the case for Les Miles's LSU in every season but 2008. Come on now. Everyone here knows where LSU stands.
