Auburn Suspends Professor Accused of Fixing Athletes' Academic Problems
Auburn University has suspended a sociology professor at the center of a controversy over snap courses and improper grade changes that were allegedly designed to help athletes remain eligible to play and to help athletes and other students graduate at rates far higher than their poor academic records would merit. According to today’s New York Times, which broke the news of the seemingly lax academic standards, the tenured sociology professor, Thomas Petee, has been suspended with pay over the grade-changing allegation.

Wow. talk about institutional corruption....seems to be a long history of it in Auburn.

Auburn Coach Pat Dye and one of his top assistants, Bud Casey, both denied claims of improper recruiting tactics made by a prep football star who signed with cross-state rival Alabama. The highly recruited player, offensive lineman Charlie Dare, allegedly was promised by Auburn that his grades and ACT test score would be high enough to meet NCAA standards and assure eligibility this fall.

Of course, Auburn denies it, so it must not be true. The rest of the world is out to get Auburn, because they are so good and truthful, right?
