Every time I see one of these threads, I am surprised at the lack of mention of Title IX, or the lack of understanding of it even when it is mentioned.

First of all, as it pertains to Title IX, the fact that Vandy is private is irrelevant. They receive federally funded student loans. They cannot be exempt from Title IX.

Second, so what if the Vandy football team unionizes? The fact that they may have formed a union will in no way allow them to reap a benefit that is inequitable under Title IX. For any dollar stipend received, any insurance benefit received, any disability benefit received by Vandy football players, female athletes will receive exactly the same. Title IX is the law of the land, and while the Obama administration may think that they can selectively enforce Obamacare, there is no way in hell that Title IX will ever be set aside just because some underling at the NLRB says that football players can unionize.

Oh, by the way, since Vandy would never drop basketball or baseball, make that a total of about 112 females that would have to get those benefits.

Go on the website of the College Athletes Players Association and you will quickly see that none of these guys are women. Ramogi Huma may be a smart guy, but he's clueless if he believes this:

"Huma also co-authored groundbreaking studies that made national headlines such as “The $6 Billion Heist: Robbing College Athletes Under the Guise of Amateurism”. The study estimates that the fair market value of FBS football and men’s basketball players is approximately $137,000 and $289,000 respectively; and that the NCAA will deny these athletes approximately $6 billion of their fair market value between 2011-15."

The NCAA may deny athletes compensation under the guise of amateurism, but he's a moron if he thinks that the U.S. Department of Education would ever sit still and let college football players and male college basketball players get paid their "market value".

I also think it is only a matter of time before the women athletes sue because the boys are getting paid.
