And be damned to the kids who suffer life altering injuries on the football field. Their life long hospital bills will continue to be their success. Come on? I don't have a problem with providing these players with health care coverage.

I agree with your sentiment BUT the health care issue is fast becoming a moot point. Between the ACA, medicaid, and other health care related laws that are already on the books those life long bills will be paid. It's still a patchwork set of federal, state, and local laws but the patchwork would cover anyone with catastrophic injuries the same as everyone else. It's the small time injuries and health issues that fall through the patchwork and often don't get much coverage and end up costing people so much money. Medications which we still haven't dealt with properly are another big cost.

[Begin healthcare rant] One reason I'm for us going to some form of single-payer completely is that it free employers from the burden of providing insurance, lowers the overall cost of health care, frees employees to move around, encourages entrepreneurship (no worrying about huge premiums if you're not with a big company or if you're your own boss) and lowers the overall economic drag health care has on the economy. It's good for business/employers and it's good for people.

The devil is in the details but if we ever get around to thinking about single-payer like tri-care, medicare, and our congress have then we can work those details out. (Of course this is a pipe dream but the day US companies no longer have to pay health insurance because we have single-payer is the day the price of labor goes down and Americans get more jobs). The players didn't kill amateurism in college football, the schools and conferences did.

Look at all the conference realignment and tv deals and coaches salary, it's gone insane over the last 20-30 years.

The revenue generated has skyrocketed something crazy.

Decisions are made entirely based on money, not what's good for the school or the players.
