this is from a Barner on Scout LINK

quote:

Here are some assumptions I'm making:
Cable households per state are based on 2012 TVB.org statistics. (I believe these numbers are low, but they are the best I could find this morning.)
There will ultimately be 85% carriage on all cable/satellite households. (As reference, ESPNU has 75 million households and I'm projecting the SEC Network to be at 60 million households.)
Assume the SEC and ESPN split the revenue 50/50 - and then the SEC divides the revenue 15 ways (14 for each school and one share for the SEC office.)

Pretty important to note that this is based on 60m subscribers and we're already at ~20m. But just as important, he's also leaving out advertising and costs.

The BTN gets about $30m in advertising and generates $280m. They have a cost basis of approximately $80m. I think the SECN will have a higher cost structure (just due to higher quality production by ESPN). So if we assume $100m that leaves about $310m in profit (adding the 30m ad revenue) and split 50/50 it's about $11m per school.

Justin Connolly (ESPN SVP of college networks) interview. It's interesting but no earth shattering news.

Just looking over this but those numbers for Texas are VERY conservative, they have Florida with more cable subscribers than Texas in spite of having 7 million fewer people. That means either the data is wrong or Texas has a much higher rate of satellite subscribers. Either way, there is a lot more money on the table.

Personally I've been going back and forth on switching from DTV to UVerse (had a thread on the Rant on it as well) and I think I am going to make the UVerse switch after all.
