If Alaka and Walker are SAM and WILL respectively, doesn't that only leave us with 2 players at Mike (Mastrogiovanni and Chevis) if Claiborne moves to WILL and Wade moves to SAM?

Sort of. Every LB is cross-trained at another position. Usually you let them learn one and then push them to another once they've mastered it but we've had to accelerate everything due to a lack of depth. I think it's hurt their progress a bit though. Pushing Mastro to SAM meant him spending 2 weeks not practicing at MIKE when 2 weeks was literally 33% of the time he'd been practicing.

Anyway it's not like Claiborne is ineligible at MLB when he moves. If you have an issue, you can always move him back. I think Justin Bass (walk-on) is our 3rd string MLB for scout team. He actually played a series in the bowl game. Hilliard is another possibility depending on how the battle at SAM goes. Also Tommy Sanders plays MLB in nickel packages. We actually have options with 8 returning scholarship LBs this year after 2 last year.

Wade moves to SAM

Wade is a WILL, not a SAM. His secondary position is probably MIKE. He lacks the length to be effective at SAM really. But if we don't see improvement at the position, lots of people could be tried out there in the spring. But to this point, I don't think Wade has practiced anything but WILL
