TennisRecruiting.net announced today that the South Carolina men's tennis signing class is rated No. 2 in the country. Chosen by a panel of junior tennis experts from around the country, the rankings include all commitments reported through Jan. 4. The Gamecocks' quartet earned seven first-place votes from the panel. It is head coach Josh Goffi's second top-three class in the last four years. The 2014 signing class for the Gamecocks includes blue chip recruits Thomas Mayronne (Monroe, La.) and Harrison O'Keefe (Salem, Va.), five-star rated Wood Benton (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) and top-35 international junior Gabriel Friedrich (Pelotas, Brazil).

"These guys are very accomplished players," Goffi said. "Every one of them has done amazing things on the national and international level, but they all need to work and to develop still. They're coming into a great situation to do that. The environment and culture around our program are exactly where we need it to be, and every guy is going to be at a high level."

Have to give credit where credit is due to Eric Hyman for hiring Josh Goffi, it's been a huge coup. (Although most of the credit should probably go to Marcy Girton, I wish she would have stayed here instead of following Hyman to A&M)

Goffi is probably the hottest young coach in the country and, if we can keep him here he'll probably win us a national championship ... if he can stay focused with Nancy having babies and if Clemson doesn't come-in and try to lure him back there when their coach retires.

There is always the thread of A&M coming after him as well because not only did Hyman take Marcy but he took Ray Harrison too - and Goffi had big connections with both of them during the hiring process.

In the meantime we've given Josh all of the facilities upgrades he's asked for, and Nancy seems to be content here, with being relatively close to Atlanta - plus her babies are being born here. I wish we could get her more involved in SCAR athletics. But still, she'd probably lead him back to Clemson if they got the chance so we're going to have to make it home for him while he is here and keep our fingers crossed that we can keep them over the long haul.

That's a huge part of it I bet.

Weren't we also doing some additional upgrades to them that should be finished this year? I thought I remembered posting or reading something about that here before.
