I don't take sports very seriously. I watch every UT game I can (starting to think I'm a masochist), but whether they win/lose has no bearing on my day or life. That won't change when UT starts winning again, either. The only times I've been a little mad were when they played like shite and should've won the game...it frustrates me because I can see that if they only would've executed a little better they would've won. I've been there with coaches telling me the same thing and didn't realize it at the time but see it when I watch now.
Luckily I was able to play sports into the college level (basketball), so it's not a competetive thing for me other than "bragging" rights with friends. I don't feel like a better person when "my team" is doing well. I think for some It's all they have or helps self esteem or something like that. Sports give people an escape from their shitty lives.

LSU football is as much a social event as much as it is a game to watch.
It's an excuse for our Cajun queens to get dolled up and our guys to dutifully compete for their sweet wares, and sometimes marriages of varying lengths.
I imagine it's the same everywhere...no?
