Chavis runs a pretty complex defense and he needs someone to make the checks on the field. Right now he is putting more weight in that than talent in Welter's case. I am not one to question the Chief's decisions especially when it comes to LBers.

4-3 or 4-2-5.... there's really only two positions that have to do anything different, not rocket science, it's harder getting guys on and off the field than anything else.

I personally wouldn't keep an inferior linebacker on the field for that purpose. Proper linebacker coaching would hopefully mean they know what their assignments are without being told... but it's good to have someone on the field to keep them on the same page, not sure why it has to be a guy that is an overall liability to the team.

UGA had the same problem with one of our safeties suspended for the Clemson game. The guy that was the backup is actually a senior and knows the defense backward and forward, will probably be a successful coach someday. He helped keep the youngin's together for their first college game in the secondary, but his personal game play was piss poor.

I'd rather have the better talent on the field, because you aren't tackling a chalkboard on Saturday.
