NFL coaches get fired every year.

And why do they get fired? because they are so successful?

Some may even feel they could parlay a college OL position into a head coaching gig someday.

Doesn'rt happen. or I have never heard of it happening. Typically it would go from OL to Offensive coord. to head. but MOST head coaches come from Defensive Coordinator positions. But I don't ever recall an Offensive Line coach being promoted to head coach.

Don't knock small schools. Many on here have called for head coaching change, going from Richt to Strong of Louisville, Patterson of TCU....a lot of small colleges have coaches that do very well on the big stage.

Maybe I think it would take more than one year, though. I saw what I thought was improvement last year, and I think we will see improvement this year. Just a feeling, though.

It didn't take BVG a few years to get things sorted out. He performed shortly after being hired and helped the program win two SEC titles off the back of his defense.

BVG was the exception to the rule. Wish we still had him. He did a great job, though, didn't he?

Certainly rare. Joe Bugel of Skins Hogs fame was one.
