You do realize that they averaged only defending one less rushing attempt per game than MSU, right?

What does it have to do with anything? They were a hurry up spread team. Of course they defended more total snaps than MSU did thus why the number is skewed.

They defended 544 pass attempts. The 3rd most in all of FBS. Suffice to say -- teams were confident that they could shred them through the air.
