KA is seeing Martavian Payne tonight. Unranked JUCO guard with no offers right now. I did find this scouting report on him, it's very complimentary but does call him a mid major. Hopefully he's a backup plan.

In the half court Payne has shown the ability to score at all three levels. He is slippery in traffic with his handles getting through tight spaces for buckets slashing to the hoop. He shoots it with ease including a plus pull up shot from both mid-range and three. Payne has a knack for scoring in bunches and putting his team on his back for stretches. Defensively he is active moving his feet and creating turnovers. Any mid-major looking for a bucket getter should be knocking down Payne’s door! He is also garnering some high major attention.

We spoke with the Logan standout about his season.

“It is going good. We are off to a great start with a great record. It is really going well. I am stepping up real big for my team and being a leader.”

What areas has he improved the most as a sophomore?

“I would say my ball handling, rebounding, and playing defense.”

Payne has helped take a leadership role this year as well.

“I am just being a leader for my team. You know being a sophomore I have to step up and lead the freshmen.”

What is the status of his recruitment?

“It is going good. I have a couple big schools calling me so I am just keeping my head up and waiting on more. I have been talking to Tennessee and North Carolina Central and coach told me a couple more schools had called.”

Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Bradley, SIU, California, Purdue, Jacksonville State, and TCU are a few of the other programs recruiting the scoring guard.
