On RSR by Christian Byrd on Recruiting Central.
Every year it seems the most dramatic instate battle is with that class' CJ. State fans seem to think it will be a battle to the end since he is from Meridian and has visited state twice after committing to us. Christian doesn't go into much about that because CJ has said nothing but the typical "Im 100% Ole Miss", but he does get some interesting answers to various questions.
Lots of state fans think we got CJs commitment because we were the first to offer. The truth is that CJ was considering college baseball a few years ago and his dream school (for baseball) was Ole Miss.
State fans always think the Meridian pressure will push CJ their way. CJ explained to Christian that the local community has been nothing but supportive of his decision and that Meridian isn't as pro dawg as some think. He also mentioned that he and Tyler Russell are cousins and talk frequently.
When asked who he is closest with in the state he said he and Ronald Walker have both gotten close. At their last rivals camp, CJ got the top DB award and Ronald was second. They both were selected to The Opening featuring the top 150 players in the country.
When asked if he was surprised by the elite class OM brought in last year and CJ said not at all. He said once you're recruited by OM you understand why others are so interested in them and after talking to other national guys he expects another top 10 class.
I still expect a lot of drama with his recruitment but as long as we prove we are the better program in the state, CJ will wear the red and blue.
