South Louisiana, central Mississippi, and north Alabama's always been as much of a tornado alley as the midwest. Weather Underground has a good graphic charting F3 or stronger tornadoes since 1950. Notice how the historical pattern in the south matches the same SW to NE line that individual storms usually follow.
