we weren't in a position to hire a guy with one year of head coaching experience. our program was in shambles, not the kind of thing you give to an unproven head coach and hope he can fix.

Was Arkansas too proud to hire a coach away from Arkansas State??? (nevermind the fact that he was there less than a year)

Your points are valid, but I wouldn't exactly characterize Malzahn as someone lacking experience.
A Malzahn hire at Arkansas wouldn't exactly seem out of the ordinary. To most, it would've been the logical hire.
