Seal appears to have been a generous man and a great supporter but not in the T Boone/Phil Knight league. He gave $12 million (or rather his family did since he passed) for your $25 million project (not $80 million) according to your AD site.

For perspective Pickens has given over $400 million to Oklahoma State and over $265 million to athletics according to latest estimates on his Wiki. OSU is basically T Boone's franchise team, he is so pervasive there I went to the Alamo Bowl where they won a couple years ago with a client and the first person Gundy thanked was T Boone. Even with all of that though OSU will never surpass OU, much less Texas, for the long run.

As a sidenote T Boone actually started school at A&M as a basketball player but was cut from the team and had to transfer. Damn that was an expensive mistake!

Trust me when I tell you that what you can read is not the "whole story" on Leo Seal.

He had a trust in his will that has never been publicized for the specific purpose of "keeping a coach worth a damn or getting rid of one that isn't". Rumored to be worth between $50-100mil. That is why our AD has repeatedly said that we would never lose Mullen over money.

The Mize family also have about $50 mil tied up in MSU in different avenues and are constantly giving more. Rumor has it he was going to write a check at one point when we were initially going to horseshoe the stadium in 2001 before the wheels fell off our program(granted it would have been a much less impressive horseshoe probably to the tune of $10-20mil).

They are still not T.Boone, but State has a few big fish. In private athletics donations over the past two years, we are on par with the entire SEC as is Ole Miss. Our stadiums/population base are the only things holding back our overall profitability compared to others. There is enough money flowing into each athletics dept to compete now. Hasn't always been, but there is now.

Jackie Sherrill has already proven that you can recruit at an elite level at MSU. It's a shame that cruit rankings don't go back far enough to really show it. Look at our 2002 and 2003 classes after the tires had already fallen off for reference. Granted, Mullen is not yet recruiting on that level...
