Starting a RothIRA soon and was thinking about going through Schwab. Would go ahead and open a brokerage account through the same place I open the Roth.

Also any drawbacks to doing your checking account/savings account through them as well?

Not quite sure what I need to be looking at to make sure they are right for me. I know I don't want a lot of random maintenance fees that maybe some other places wouldn't charge.

So basically anyone have any good/bad experiences with Schwab or maybe other places that would be good to look at as well.

I have my checking, Roth, 401, and mortgage with them. About the only thing I don't have is my HELOC. I've been a very satisfied Schwab customer for 20 years.

A big plus is that their customer service is top-notch. You can call 24/7 and some cheery person whose first language is English will pick up the phone and will competently answer pretty much whatever question you have.

The basic arrangement is that you establish a brokerage account that is linked to a checking account. Schwab Bank has no B&M facilities near me, but I can deposit to the brokerage account directly and then transfer it free wherever I want. There is also a Schwab phone app you can use to make deposits so you don't have to even leave home to deposit a check.

Fund offerings are very comprehensive. The website and online bill pay work nicely, and it all plays well with Quicken.

Highly recommended, and no I am not an employee or relative of one.

I have: Checking/Brokerage/SEP IRA

Nothing but pleased with them.

ETA: And the reason I went to CS was Foshizzle's previous endorsements and raves about their features such as mobile deposit and ATM fee reimbursement (which is not unique to them, but still awesome).

I've been with Schwab for 20 years; have 2 Roths, a SEP, an IRA, regular brokerage, checking, and had a credit card until they sold that to BOA. I'm quite satisfied with their products, fees, and customer service.

I think Schwab is the best big bank out there....

Customer service phone line might be the best in the planet too.
