It goes both ways.
An early signing date would eliminate some of it.
If you really want a player you will offer him early.
LSU got burned this year with Kiel losing an early enrollee in Patrick Miller who went to Auburn
LSU got burned with Toshiro Davis and it was too late to replace him
LSU coaches did it to Elliot Porter who went to UK but is now back at LSU
LSU got Corey Thompson from A&M at last minute primarily due to losing Collins
