DuBose was a highly successful defensive assistant for highly successful defenses for years under Stallings. Coupled with his Bama pedigree, and their insistence on hiring within the family, DuBose was probably more qualified for the Bama job than Saban was in 1997. Saban had only one seven-win season at MSU at that point. Then he continued to improve as a coach, and his resume' got better in the two years between '97 and '99, which made LSU want him.

Plus at that time LSU was nowhere near as good a job as Bama was, so being qualified to coach at LSU didn't necessarily make him qualified to coach at Bama.

It continues to amaze me that people don't even consider historical context when they post stuff like this.
