aTm to the SEC would be great for the SEC and great for aTm.
The SEC gets:
1. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and the rest of th nation's 2nd most populous state. We get aTm fans watching, plus UT fans watching to cheer against aTm.
2. a high end academic institution that shares a border with 2 current SEC states
3. a strong athletic team which competes at a high level most years in nearly all sports and has great facilities
4. more access to Texas recruits for the other SEC schools
5. a natural rivalry for 2 SEC schools (LSU and Arky)
6. More money. (Once aTm and another school join we can renegotiate our contract and surely receive more money given the added market size and record contracts given to conferences of lesser appeal than the SEC)
aTm gets:
1. an immediate boost in exposure, prestige, credibility, recruiting, and fan support
2. the ability to separate itself from a UT program that is about to dominate the Big 12 financially
3. the ability to offer something to a recruit that UT can't give them
4. the opportunity to be a part of a very balanced conference (as opposed to an OU/UT dominated Big 12). Competition is tough, but almost anyone can succeed (see 5 different teams having won BCS titles, 6 different teams having won the conference since expansion, and 9 of 12 teams having played in the SEC title game at least once).
