If I remember correctly all he did was tests the photosynthesis in the leaves with some sort of hand held meter. He may have taken some soil samples, but that takes longer to get results. His whole thing was he didn't think they were poisoned because the leaves didn't show any signs of poisoning. Remember though Harvey did this is the middle of cold November, with plenty of rain.. With those conditions it would take the poison longer to show up in the leaves. The soil samples just turned out to be more concrete evidence they were actually poisoned.

So when he said the trees had not been poisoned, was he lying or incompetent? He claims to be the expert.
