As a fan I root for the Hogs to win every game and I expect our head coach to have them prepared both mentally and physically to win every game. If you are willing to make excuses for your coaching staff then that's your right but to use it as insult that our players 'get more up for the game' is pathetic, especially for a fan of a "real program".

It's not really something the coaches can entirely control. This happens in every sport at every level. When one team/program/franchise is considerably more accomplished than it's opponent, it's natural for the lesser of the two to take it much more seriously the the other.
