LSU fans will admit when we've benefited from a bad call like the one last season in Georgia. There is a history of us getting horrendous calls AT Auburn. I saved this pic from 2006 for just such an occasion. Our player had no chance at the ball because the Auburn defender had him completely wrapped up. This call was clearly missed and changed the game. Funny that it happened in the 4th quarter just like the bad calls against Arkansas.

What your picture doesn't show is that the ball was tipped in the opposite direction of the receiver just after that picture. The receiver had no chance to catch the ball. Therefore it was deemed uncatchable and the pass interference (which WAS called) by rule had to be picked up.

The refs could have called defensive holding and probably should have, and they wouldn't have had to pick that up. I wouldn't have had an argument with that since the defender did get there early.

I don't care what the NCAA said the week after the game, that's not an intelligent interpretation of the rule, and everybody knows it. By that logic, as a DB you could run over any receiver you want and it would be okay as long as you then knocked the ball down before it reached him. That's ridiculous.

I don't think thats right. I think they said it was a tipped ball, but I don't think they said the tip made the ball uncatchable, they just incorrectly said the tip occurred before contact was made.
What you're talking about doesn't make any sense. Pass interference is a penalty called at the time the interference occurs- at the time the contact occurred, that ball was "catchable" by any definition you want to use.

Think of the implications of implementing the rules your way. A DB could just throw a WR on the ground, and then catch the ball in front of where the WR was standing. At that point, the ball would have been uncatchable by the WR, due to the DB possessing it in front of where the WR had been waiting to catch it.
