I thought Razorbacks were native (well at least back to the time the Spanish let their ancestors loose in America) to Arkansas, thus the choice of team mascot for UA. Why not use a real Razorback from Arkansas?

No, the choice of mascot comes from a speech from the early 1900s in which Hugo Bezdek, Hall of Fame coach, said that our team fought like a pack of wild razorback hogs (in reference to a game we had just won against LSU). The student body soon voted for the razorback as our new mascot.

We were formerly the Arkansas Cardinals.

Swine is not native to North America; however, once they were introduced, piggies of all types thrived on the bountiful flora of the region.
