Nice arena with plenty of good seats.

At Kentucky, an arena that size just doesn't make sense. The University is planning on building an even larger arena than Rupp in the near future.

LIke I said, bigger is not always better. And I do think UK needs a new arena. I've never liked Rupp, but I think that's because of when it was built. It's like a dinosaur now, it's big but that's about it.

The new one, when built, will seat between 24,000 and 30,000.
Rupp is already the biggest basketball arena in the U.S. It's just not big enough to please our fanbase. Tickets are in such high demand that they had to suspend allowing players parents to buy additional tickets outside of the four allotted tickets for each game, and there are still thousands upon thousands who can't get tickets.

Say what you want about Rupp, but I've seen kids from other teams cry there in awe...
It's not the size as much as it is the nostalgia and the sheer crescendo of sound that pervades you there.

When Rupp is rocking, nothing compares.

Rupp rules. I can't speak bad of the place where we beat UConn and Cincinnati to get to our only Final Four in school history.

Memorial Gym is nice, but it does have some downsides about it, imo. Like the large area of space on the side of the court, the player benches and the shot clock near the floor.

How many of you like Coleman Coliseum, especially with the new scoreboard and renovations to the entrance and inside?

Haven't been in Coleman for a game in a while, but overall it's a pretty nice arena. The upgrades look nice from what I can see watching on tv.

There is a lot to be said for "Memorial Magic".
Its a small building with tons of fans packed inside. Makes it louder.

It's pretty nice, but I still like Memorial more than most of the other one's.

I had never been in Memorial Gyn until I moved to Nashville 4 years ago. The place really rocks. When Vandy beat #1 UT 2 years ago you could not hear the Public Address System the entire game. I've never heard a basketball fan base that loud ever. It gets very, very loud during big games.

LSU fans can verify this, but I remember Dale Brown trying to physically move the LSU bench there before a game one year. He hated the set up.

I love Memorial, particularly the "stage-like" setting of the court when you are down in the first few rows on the student side (I played in the pep band for several years and so typically had excellent seats). I haven't really been to enough of the other gyms to make a knowledgeable overall comparison. That being said, while there is something magic about Memorial, it is the oldest gym in the SEC (built in 1952) and it does show its age, so those calling it a dump aren't without reason.
