Epiphany about college football t-shirt fans

Last night, a dude at the bar questioned my fanhood.
A couple of buddies and I were having a pretty good ole time after the game, and were sort of half-arse watching the Vandy/UF game on tv at the bar. At one point, someone compared Tim Tebow to Bill Brasky, which was fricking hilarious. Especially after 5 beers...
We followed that with a few rounds of "Bill Brasky" stories, but at the end of them, we'd all say "TIM TE-BOW" like the old SNL skit. We did this a few times. Okay, maybe like 6. But we were in a big sports bar, it was late, and the place wasn't crowded. Besides, it was hilarious, especially after 6 beers.
We also sang the first verse of the Vandy fight song a few times, ironically, of course. But hell, we were having fun. No harm, no foul.
Well, there was a guy at the bar who came up, bowed up on us, and threatened to fight us. He thought we were "Tim Tebow fans" and that we were "disrespecting the Razorbacks".
Nevermind that I had just left the Arkansas/Carolina game, was still wearing a Razorback shirt, and this doofus was wearing Carolina Blue and obviously had never attended the University of Arkansas.
Nevermind that everybody at my table actually graduated from my alma mater. Nevermind that I even went as far as to explain to this guy that "hey, we were just kinda clowning on that old SNL skit". This guy seriously wanted to fight us. At first we thought he was just kind of playing along, taking the "joke" to a new level. But no, he wanted to get physical. He drew the conclusion from our actions that we were all Florida fans, and that we were rubbing his, the TRUE Hog Fan, nose in shite. It was bizarre.
And two weekends ago, I had an OU Sooner fan (at another bar) try to convince me that Houston Nutt had played QB for Arkansas in the 1978 Orange Bowl vs. the Sooners, (which he didn't). When I showed him on my phone that in fact, Ron Calcagni had been the QB, which doesn't matter now, he got really angry and then started saying things about my degree from Arkansas (he was another t-shirt fan of OU, btw. No degree, no association with the University of Oklahoma other than being a fan).
So in three weeks, I've had bar confrontations with t-shirt fans. I know, I know, it must be something about me that invites this kind of confrontation. I guarantee, both instances, I was just being friendly, light-hearted, and in neither instance was I even directly speaking to or interacting with the t-shirt fan.
What makes t-shirt fans dumb, and what makes them angry drunks, and what makes them behave this way?
I have been questioning my own fanhood today. Are people really that fricking stupid and crazy that they want to get into bar fights over interpreted "slights" about college football teams? I mean, really.....
And how fricking stupid/drunk do you have to be to do shite like that?

Some people are just stupid, it's best to just ignore them.

BTW what actually constitutes being a t-shirt fan? If you didn't have the means to go to UA but have lived in Arkansas and rooted for the hogs for your entire life are you a "t-shirt" fan. I think it's more a case of stupid fan rather than "t-shirt" fan. There are stupid drunk fans that go to UA and great life long fans that never did. Just sayin.

You and your community would be best served by shooting each and every one of them in the head.

For some reason, every game day I never have a clean red shirt. I usually get out of the shower and stumble over to the closet and just grab a random shirt. I never really pay too much attention because I'm too busy thinking about my hangover. I've accidentally worn the opposing team's colors at least twice this year. I never fail to have someone come up and try to talk shite to me, even though I am running around the bar cheering and high fiving people after our big plays. I usually just call them plebs (drives them crazy because they don't know what it means) and go on with my day. By the way, it always seems to be the stupid motherfrickers that look like there is no way they could have graduated high school, let alone college. Possible correlation? I believe so.
Also, how do you know the Vandy fight song?

so in order to be a true fan of a school, you must have graduated from that school?

there are some unhappy people who go to bars just looking for fights.

Not the Tee Shirts - It's the alcohol.
Also, I think Nutt did play a few downs in the 1978 Orange Bowl during the last series. So, technically the Sooner may have been right. I’ll have to check on that.

Hey frickstick, I never attended the UA. I got my degree elsewhere. You are no more of a hog fan than I and are no more deserving of anything either.

What makes Alum so damned arogant?

You don't have to actually go to school there, because some people don't have a choice. They are not able to go to college or have to go elsewhere for their major, scholarship etc. T shirt fans are just the ones that act like fans, but never go to campus and can't name more than 2 people on the team.
