If we are going to go to a 16 team playoff here's an idea of how it should look

4 auto bids for conference champs to keep the conference championship game meaningful

12 at large teams aka highest ranked

No G5 auto bids

First two rounds on campuses of higher seeds

Avoid rematches or conference matchups in first round if possible

Semi finals and finals would work as they do now
