Tarp Answer about football field for rain

Many have asked why #Oklahoma did not tarp the football field. So I asked the great @JasonFaires that very question. Here is his response:
"OU doesn’t have those types of tarps that keeps rain from soaking into the field. You only see those types of tarps for the infields of softball and baseball fields. The tarps that OU has for the game field are growth tarps that absorb and trap in heat but they also allow the grass breathe. They do nothing to keep the field dry. Typically used in November and December to get growth on the grass for recovery when we don’t have warm enough temperatures for the grass to grow. They warm up the soil temperatures anywhere between 10 and 35 degrees."
Also, consider the investment, both financially and in storing such a massive tarp, compared to how rarely it would actually be used.
