Serious Question

Several pundits/coaches in the know over the years have said that refs could call holding on just about every play if they wanted to. So, lots of holding calls during the Ole Miss/LSU game on both teams. When I watch the replay, I can see the holding sometimes. But other teams, it just seems nitpicky to me.
When you take someone to the ground or hold their jersey for a long time, it's obvious. But there are other times that the refs call holding, and it seems like they could have let it go.
Does holding need to be redefined? It seems there are an awful lot of holding calls that really slow the game down, and I shake my head. Anybody?
