I am now 1-5 in the last 6 home games I have attended since 2022. Oof.
When was the last time a 7 point loss felt more like a 28 point beat down. I mean- sure we had a shot with it 14-7, but when they went up 21-7 it felt like getting 2 scores was an impossible ask. The only other two home games i have attended that had a similar feel to me- of just futility- was Miss St in 1997 and USC 2003.
Many of the things have been discussed already- my 2 cents-
Thorne was bad- bad reads, didn’t see the field. No progression. Not a step forward from him. By the end he just looked lost. Maybe the poor line play contributed.
Special teams- punt return in particular- killed us. Field position was awful.
Time of possession- not getting them off the field in the 2nd quarter killed any momentum.
There is no recognizable “leader” on this team- we don’t seem to have that guy that rallies the team- on either side of the ball. We also look like- I don’t know- perpetually flat? Like, stating the obvious maybe- but that we’ve forgotten how to win? We were only down 7- but the team looked deflated.
Offensive line got pushed around. Cal was way more physical on the defensive line and their defensive backs pushed us around too.
WRs got pushed around by their DBs.
Our DBs did better in the second half but overall. Kayin Lee (#4) got pushed around and was out of position a lot. Collectively they almost never turned around to see where the ball was.
Team effort crapping the bed- only bright spot was the defense did rally and hold the line after halftime. Have to tip the hat there.

Were you at the NMSU game? I was and I imagine it felt similar.

Just adding my nugget in here. It was our 17-yr wedding anniversary day, met at AU and been together for 21.5 yrs. I chose the game thinking it will be a good one with us putting up a good fight and winning against a P4 team but the coaches and players decided to take a giant shite on Pat Dye field… it will be a couple of years before the wife lets me drag her to another home game anytime soon.
