What about just locking your doors to keep people who don't live there out... regardless if their thieving or robbing...

It's pretty rare to have someone just come in that isn't doing anything crazy. Obviously as this thread indicates, it does happen.

But our culture in the USA holds unlocked doors to be an indicator of safety and security. If you live in a town where the doors are unlocked most nights, you're probably safe.
