Please elaborate

Auburn's downward trend started with Malzahn.

It began when substitution rules were changed and his no huddle lost its advantage.

It escalated as our defense turned into swiss cheese and outscoring opponents wasn't so easy. (see above)

It mediated a bit when Malzahn was forced to hire Muschamp and we rebuilt the defensive roster. For several years, Kevin Steele's defense saved Gus' job.

Soon stacking the line became an easy defense because Malzahn didn't feel the need to recruit offensive linemen and said as much. His offense, save for a blip with Jared Stidham and Bo Nix running for his life was completely ineffective. The very few of his players that went to the NFL were unprepared and had to practically relearn the game.

Our roster was a disaster when Harsin came to town. Harsin didn't feel the need to recruit, so it got worse. The only reason Hugh Freeze was hired was his ability to recruit and that hole was dug entirely by Gus Malzahn.

So, there ya go.
