The Gators have stormed the field. I was there and saw it. It was in the mid 80s - probably ‘84 or ‘ 85 at the cocktail party. UF fans were so thrilled to have actually beaten UGA after years and years of frustration they stormed the field. Jake Godbold, the mayor of Jax was so happy he said it was a wonderful celebration and the city would pay for goalposts every year if UF won. The next year UGA won and UGA fans went on the field only to be arrested and beaten with Billy clubs. It caused a major uproar. Vince Dooley and UGA were not happy about the unequal treatment of our fans and for awhile the future location of the cocktail party was in serious question. It took a lot to get Vince Dooley really angry but this did and UGA was prepared to refuse to play in Jax unless things changed. Apologies were issued when Jax officials realized that Georgia meant business. People were outraged that it was fine when UF fans tore down the goalposts while UGA fans were beaten and hauled off to jail for doing the same thing.
So yes, the Gators HAVE stormed the field.
