If anyone has Google earth pro or a similar mapping system, you can go back in time and watch the land disappear in southeast LA. I know go-devils were first, but Gatortails were founded in 2004. How long before they were mainstream, 2010? The coast in SE LA not around the river was rapidly eroding prior to 2010. Whereas areas around Venice, that are heavily hunted with surface drives, have continued building land. So what's the real problem?

the land loss started in 1906 when the Corps of engineers dammed off the Bayou Lafourch entrance from the Mississippi River . Within 5 years salt water intrusion had backed up the bayou as far as the sugar mill at raceland. In the 1960 period there were dead oak trees along the road all the way to grand isle .
