Casual chat threads

Are these allowed on the site? I know OT exists for a reason, but a somewhat-sports related chat thread on the Rant would be fun to have. The Rant gets more traffic than OT and a casual chat thread would be a fun place for banter on slow sports days.

Considering all the troll and shite posting threads that are allowed on this site, I'd imagine this type of thread would be permitted. Even if it's technically "against the rules".
