making their first ever appearance.
Will the college football playoffs ever have 3 first ever teams in one season?
My guess is no…might happen when the playoffs expand but still doubtful!

I believe it is almost guaranteed the CFP will have at least three first time playoff teams the first year it expands to 12 teams. The CFP is only 9 years old and there have only been 14 different teams make the playoffs since its inception. Going off of the CFP rankings at the end of last season, if there had been a 12 team playoff, 6 teams would've been first time CFP participants.

They had 4 in 2014, and 3 in 2015

In my opinion, the first year the CFP expands to 12 teams, at least three of them will be making the playoffs for the first time. Since the CFP's debut in 2008, just 14 different teams have advanced to the postseason. If there had been a 12-team playoff based on the CFP rankings at the end of last season, six of those clubs would have made their CFP debut. drift boss
