The CWS has changed over time, the biggest being in 1988 when it switched from (i) ONE 8-team, double-elimination tournament format to (ii) TWO, 4-Team double-elimination mini-tournaments. The new format provides at least one day off (sometimes two) between the mini-tournaments and the finals, which benefits teams with weaker pitching staffs.

The biggest change was from ~ 1985-2009, the "live-ball" era, with the weaponized aluminum bats and the juiced balls and juiced ball players. "Chicks dig the long ball."

The games with 10 combined runs or more in each decade are listed below:

50's, 5 out of 10, 50%
60's, 3 out of 10, 30%
70's, 2 out of 10, 20%
80's, 6 out of 10, 60%
90's, 6 out of 10, 60%
00's, 13 out of 21, 62%
10's, 3 out of 25, 12%

From '94-'02, the 9 games averaged ~ 18 runs/game. That's more like a Sunday softball game.

I like real baseball that requires pitching, hitting & defense.

The game changes over time, and it's hard to compare one era to another.
