Jamarcus Russell was not a surprising NFL bust (LONG post, LSU fan berates an LSU player)

Jamarcus Russell was a questionable decision maker his entire career, and if we had better QB play in 2006 we could have had a title that year. I go back and forth with my fellow LSU fans about this subject. I just think it's kind of relevant this week because he was Kiffin's QB on the Raiders and I was just thinking about how irate the 2006 Ole Miss game got me while I was reminiscing about past LSU/Ole Miss games and it just prompted me to type this incoming LONG tirade about Russell. Jamarcus was drafted #1 just on potential that he never realized in college or in the pros. But that's all it ever was, potential.

Funnily enough case in point, that 2006 Ole Miss game when Coach O was still coaching the Rebs. They were 3-7 going into that game that year. We had to score a last second TD and then had the PAT blocked and had to go to OT with that bum arse team. And then the Rebs fumbled in OT to basically hand us the game. Thanks guys. But Russell had two drives in Ole Miss territory in the 4th quarter where he missed throws badly to turn it over on downs and then we missed a FG. How we managed to tie it at the end still escapes me to this day, it's really only because Ole Miss sucked so bad and couldn't score more points and LSU's defense was elite.

This guy threw 3 picks against Tennessee that year, and Ainge had to leave that game early forcing Crompton in because admittedly Dorsey (fellow EA grad) went straight for his leg that he knew was already hurt. Would probably be ejected for that in today's game but whatever, it was still a warrior's game back then. And on the final drive while trailing 24-21 he throws a pass that Early Doucet catches but it wasn't even intended for him, it was intended for Bowe. It just happened to work out.

Auburn in 2006 I can't blame him too much for this one, the offensive playcalling was ridiculously conservative and the final play was just as terrible, a throw short of the endzone with no time left (THANKS JIMBO, I GOT FLASHBACKS TO THIS shite WATCHING YOUR LAST PLAY AGAINST BAMA THIS YEAR) and of course the infamous PI flag that was picked up

Florida 2006 he had 3 picks and a fumble. This one pissed me off to no end because Chris Leak for Florida didn't play particularly well and Tebow had all the heroics but I guess Jamarcus had to one up him here. Fumble on the goal line, and then down 23-10 4th quarter they got into Florida territory and he promptly threw a pick. Defense stopped them and even blocked a punt and the he promptly threw another pick in the endzone which essentially ended the game. Florida goes on to win the title this year and I feel like we were the better team in The Swamp and would have won with better QB play

Russell's big claims to fame were the comebacks he had, but goddammit he was the reason we were in those holes to begin with. That shite was never going to slide in the NFL and it didn't surprise me one iota that he flamed out so quick. The Arizona State 4th down conversion at the end wasn't a catch too, we got away with that.

What an odd post. JM was a good college QB with tonnes of natural talent bad in the pros. Leave it at that. Physically speaking, he actually reminds me of our backup QB Milton.

That's what's so infuriating about him. Probably the most naturally gifted QB I've ever seen. It got every NFL scouts' dicks hard from coast to coast because he could throw it through the uprights on his knees from 80 yards away and shite. And that's why he was drafted #1.

You didn't have to watch this guy play every week. Dude cost LSU a natty in 2006 straight up.

He just didn't care enough. If he and Ryan Leaf had different character they could have been Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

He made some bad decisions against Florida but blame Les’s conservative approach against auburn for that
